where can this trajectory take us?
I'm curious to see how the conversation moves ahead, Jeremy laid out the institutionalinfrastructure, Judith, Daniela and Luiz and Sumer expand on student-strategies for creating a sense of empowerment, and Razvan adds pedagogical strategies from the authoritative position of the teacher.
academic aliens
I am intrigued by the idea of guerilla perfomances. Is this what I'm doing? What kind of 'we' is being created in this space, in this room, as we engage each other in academic space, instead of a home space? Can a new 'we' be constructed within the confines of the institution or must we always/only move to other spaces outside these walls?
is this quote about us?
Entering the room, we are greeted/confronted with this quote on overhead (unattributed):“These meetings are usually emotional comings together, human being to human being, without interference of classroom expectations. Students so often have said these meetings at my house completely change their understandings of what learning means, and that they feel a peace and spirituality here that cannot be talked about on campus. As much as possible, our classes are a ‘safe space’ for all students, meaning that they can express their opinions and concerns openly without fear of retaliation (…) the ‘we’ of all our classes – all those that I am the ‘instructor of record’ for – includes the breaking of the most fundamental rule of professionalism by a fundamental re-personalization of us all: we sign our e-mails with ‘love,’ we hug when we meet, we are there for each other in a profound way, we share almost all of our personal lives with each other (or whatever we want to share)” (p. 48)
